Joji Movie Review

PP Movie Rating:- ***1/2 (3.5 Star/5)

What Is The Story About?

Joji is a film adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth set in Kerala's hinterlands. Joji (Fahadh Faazil) is the youngest, enslaved son of a man who has amassed vast wealth. Joji sets off a cascade of dominoes after a sequence of events sets off a pessimistic tone in him, leading to one poor incident after another.

Analysis

Joji, based on a Shakespearean play, establishes its pace and tone early on in the film, as we are introduced to a small but fascinating cast of characters, each with their own distinct shades. The film takes its time building its universe and enlisting a decent set of events, but there isn't much time for the audience to catch their breath. Every scene is ideally planned and performed, with good performances on all sides, and the writing and direction are on point. Joji has the feel of a well-executed stage play, with few missteps.

Performances

Fahadh Faasil takes on yet another fascinating project that gives him a wacky and strange part to play, which he pulls off with ease. It's another strong addition to his extensive filmography, which boasts more hits than fails. Baburaj is yet another strong addition to the cast, as his performance adds an eerie dimension to the film that ultimately contributes to the overall image. The majority of the cast was also carefully chosen because they add significantly to the film's weight.

Music and Others Departments

Joji's cinematography and music are both excellent, evoking a peaceful and calming feeling at first before effortlessly flipping it on its head and turning it eerie.

Highlights

The rousing final 30 minutes and Fahadh Faasil's solid results.

Drawbacks

The film is not for everyone; many people would find it to be too slow and easy.

Do I Recommend It?
